Envisioning the Future of Computing Prize
The Envisioning the Future of Computing Prize is an annual competition, launched in 2023, that invites MIT students to share their ideas, aspirations, and vision for what they think a future propelled by advancements in computing holds.
Co-sponsored by the MIT Schwarzman College of Computing’s cross-cutting initiative on Social and Ethical Responsibilities of Computing (SERC) and the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (SHASS), and generously supported by MAC3 Impact Philanthropies, the prize is open to all presently-enrolled MIT students, undergraduate or graduate.
Each year, the contest follows a two-stage evaluation process. In the first round, all essays are reviewed anonymously by a panel of MIT faculty members from the college and SHASS. Three finalists are then invited to present their entries at an awards ceremony in the spring, which includes a Q&A session with a judging panel and a live in-person audience.
The winning entry is awarded a grand prize of $10,000. In addition, the prize recognizes two runners up with $5,000 each, and up to five honorable mentions with $500 each.
